When the Phonak Lumity was launched it appeared that this product was almost identical to the Phonak Paradise.   However, we did not give it enough credit, Phonak brought some significant improvements to the software and customers are reporting better results with the Lumity when compared to the previous generation, Paradise.

Let’s look at the new features of Phonak Audeo Lumity hearing aids and what has been improved upon since the Paradise hearing aid range of the same technology level (P90) below:

Improved SpeechSensor and New SmartSpeech technology

This is a new feature that encompasses several changes.  Previously, when in background noise, the hearing aids would detect a speaker in an arc in front of you and automatically focus on that speaker to reduce the background noise you hear from other directions.

Now these hearing aids, using the improved SpeechSensor technology, can also detect a speaker from the side or back of you and also automatically focus on that speaker in the same way.

It is unclear why this is a benefit as you don’t usually hold a conversation with someone facing away from them, however, Phonak has said that you are alerted to the fact that someone behind you is speaking so you can then turn to face them.

Reduced Listening effort and new operating system

By reducing background noise the hearing aids make it less taxing to follow a conversation in noisy situations. A good thing surely, but then we see a little * referring us to the note buried at the bottom of Phonak’s own Lumity range page stating: “compared to Phonak Marvel”.

So, what they are saying is that these hearing aids are better than the ones two generations ago from 2018 but have no significant reduction in listening effort when compared to the Phonak Paradise.
