You’re not alone – experiencing earwax build up is common – let us help
You may experience muffled sounds, and a hearing loss which gets worse should the earwax build up and be ignored. Living with these symptoms over a period of time causes people to feel isolated and detached.
Excess earwax is a very common problem in England and Wales, with figures estimating around 2 million adults suffering this.
Don’t DIY – rely on the experts
As this is something affecting lots of people, and because earwax removal is no longer offered by your GP, at-home earwax removal kits are increasingly readily available with suction, screw-in tools and cameras inserted into the ear. Doing-it-yourself carries a high risk of irritating the ear, causing ear infection, or even damaging the ear canal and bursting the ear drum.
The temptation may be great, but the old phrase “never put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear” is actually good advice for us all.
For our professionals, our earwax removal and advice service is a straight-forward process carried out by experts in a clean and clinical environment, so you can trust that your ears are in safe hands.

How our earwax removal service works
Our price of £55 per ear or £75 for both includes micro suction service and a full medical examination. Should there be a link to hearing loss, our clients find themselves in the perfect place should they require our audiology services and full hearing assessments.
What is earwax
Created by glands near the entrance to the ear canal, earwax is clear when it is first produced. The purpose of earwax is to lubricate and to reduce infections in the ear canal, so it is actually a good thing. There is a natural outward movement of the skin lining the ear canal. This movement causes the wax to take with it debris from the ear canal which turns into the orangey colour you see. Some people produce excessive wax and some people retain more wax than others and that may require frequent micro suction treatment. However, many other factors determine how much wax we produce including:
- Diet
- Age
- Lifestyle
- Personal anatomy
- Genetics Ethnicity
Excessive earwax can cause pain, tinnitus, infection and hearing loss through complete blockage of the canal. An otoscopic examination (looking down your ears with a magnifying lens and light) will identify if earwax is responsible for any of these problems.
Our comprehensive examination can identify if you have an earwax problem. Give us a call on

Our wax treatment
There are tried and tested methods of removing excess wax from an ear and there are a number of alternative methods (some good and some bad and some possibly dangerous too). A thorough examination with us will identify if wax is causing your problems. We can then remove the wax for you immediately by micro suction.
In the past, most people went to their GP where usually a nurse would carry out a syringing treatment. This involves a jet of warm water that should loosen the wax and backwash it out. The GP/nurse will stipulate that you must put oil into the ears morning and night for up to two weeks to soften it first. In some cases, it can take a number of visits, especially with hard impacted wax.
Unlike the commonly-known GP/ nurse syringing treatment, we will usually recommend a procedure called micro suction, due to it being the safest, most effective, quickest and most comfortable method of removing wax. Micro suction is conducted by a fully qualified and experienced audiologist.
Before you come in to see us, we recommend the use of Earol because it’s an excellent softener of wax and the spray application meaning that it is very easy to use without making a mess. It only contains olive oil and so rarely has any negative reactions with the ear canal or drum. If there is some wax in your ears but not enough to warrant micro suction then this can often help move it out.
